What is astrology?

“astrology is the correlation between celestial and earthly events.” - chris brennan

With astrology, you can gain insight on yourself with the placements in your birth chart. You can learn your strengths and flaws and use this information for self-improvement and growth. Astrology is also able to give you an understanding on world events! This can mainly be seen in horoscopes, which give insight into the possibilities for the future that align with the planetary movements that occur. It can also describe relationships and point out karma.

The sun sign

Also known as the star sign, the sun sign is the most important sign. Tt is the planet that rules over your essential character, self-expression, and your overall personality. It is the one that you may be familiar with, since it is the most commonly known. Here is a list of all of the sun signs and their dates:

♈️ Aries: march 20 - april 20

♉️ Taurus: april 20 - may 21

♊️ Gemini: may 21 - june 21

♋️ Cancer: june 21 - july 23

♌️ Leo: july 23 - august 23

♍️ Virgo: august 23 - september 23

♎️ Libra: september 23 - october 23

♏️ Scorpio: october 23 - november 22

♐️ Sagittarius: november 22 - december 21

♑️ Capricorn: december 21 - january 20

♒️ Aquarius: january 20 - february 18

♓️ Pisces: february 18 - march 20

Why are there dates that overlap each other?

This is because the sun sign moves from one sign into the other at a specific time. This is why it’s important for you to have your birth time: if you were born on a day where the sun moves from one sign into the other (cusp/transition date), you would need your birth time.

Planets

Although the sun sign rules over your essential personality, there are other planets that rule over different aspects in your life, such as your moon sign (internal mindset/emotional expression) and your mercury sign (communication style). More in-depth information regarding the other planets is covered here.

Your birth chart

Your birth chart is essentially a screenshot of the position of planets at the time you were born. It is also referred to as your natal chart. The information on the birth chart is essential, and can share and explain a lot of information about yourself!

Generating your birth chart

You are able to get an accurate birth chart if you know your birth time and your place of birth. Here are two websites that we recommend for getting your birth chart:

CAFEASTROLOGY/CAFEASTRO: Cafeastro offers two kinds of charts: a simplified chart using tables, and a traditional birth chart option. Cafeastro’s table-format birth chart is great for beginners that want to do a little bit of practice for themselves. https://astro.cafeastrology.com/natal.php

ASTRODIENST/ASTRO.COM: This generates a traditional birth chart, which is the chart with a wheel. If you’d like to know how to read a traditional birth chart, keep reading below. https://www.astro.com/cgi/chart.cgi
